Petitioner is presently working as Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police claiming promotion as Sub-Inspector of police. Though petitioner is qualified and his batch mates were promoted he was ignored on the ground that he was under the currency of punishment.

Disciplinary action initiated against petitioner resulted in Disciplinary Authority imposing punishment of postponement of one increment for one year without cumulative effect by order dated 12.08.2016. Aggrieved thereby, petitioner filed appeal. The Inspector General of Police vide his order dated 19.01.2017 allowed the appeal setting aside the punishment imposed on him. 4.

Based on the order of Inspector General of Police, petitioner submitted representation to the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Warangal Range on 01.03.2017 to grant him promotion as per his eligibility since the impediment is now removed. 5.

Petitioner already ventilated his grievance to the competent authority, but so far no orders are passed.

In view of the same, the Writ Petition is disposed of directing the Deputy Inspector General of Police (4th respondent) to examine the claim of petitioner for promotion and to pass orders, as expeditiously as possible, preferably within a period of two (2) months from the date of receipt of copy of this order, if the

- 3 - petitioner is entitled to be promoted and earlier impediment was only on punishment imposed against him, he shall be granted the benefits of promotion, if he is otherwise entitled. There shall be no order as to costs.

Miscellaneous petitions, if any, pending in this writ petition shall stand closed.
