Filed in public interest, the Petitioners draw attention of the Court to the two kilometres rural road No.173 connecting village Boraj to Malvali Railway station in Taluka Maval, District Pune. The photographs - Annexure A to A6 show that surface carpet of the road has worn off. Even the foundation of the road has worn off at places. The potholes have assumed dimensions of mini craters.

Learned counsel for Respondents informs that the Principal Secretary, Local Self Government Department, Government of Maharashtra, is the competent authority to sanction works relating to repair of road in rural areas. 3.

We dispose of the Writ Petition directing the third Respondent to treat the Writ Petition as a representation and pass necessary orders. If the decision taken is not to repair the road, reasons thereof should be recorded and communicated to the first Petitioner. If the decision taken is to repair the road, the third Respondent should ensure that the repair work is carried out under the directions of the second Respondent.
