Heard the learned counsel appearing for the petitioner and learned AGP for the State. The learned AGP on instructions states that the applications made by the petitioners for grant of caste certificates are still pending with the second respondent. He has placed on record letter dated 18th February, 2015 addressed to him by the Sub-Divisional Officer (second respondent) recording that the applications of the petitioners will be decided within a period of eight weeks from today.

It appears that applications made by the petitioners are pending from 31st August, 2013 with the Sub-Divisional Officer. The receipts issued to the petitioners show that the expected date of

2 wp9002-14 issue of certificate is mentioned as 30th September, 2013. Therefore, time of eight weeks as prayed for cannot be granted. 4.

We accordingly pass the following order :- (i) We direct the second respondent to decide the applications as expeditiously as possible and in any event, within a period of one month from today;

(ii) We direct the petitioner to produce an authenticated copy of this order before the second respondent on 25th February, 2015;

(iii) We make it clear that we have not adjudicated on the merits of the pending applications;

(iv) The petition is disposed of as above.
