The petitioner, an accused, requests that in connection with the subject crimes / FIRs registered in police station in Mumbai, a joint investigation be conducted which should be not only in the interest of the prosecution but also be in the interest of fair and effective investigation. 2.
On the earlier occasions the learned Public Prosecutor had
2/3 assured the Court that at the highest level the issue will be discussed and the decision taken would be intimated to this Court. Accordingly, the learned Public Prosecutor Mr. Shinde has placed on record Photostat copy of office order signed by the Assistant Police Commissioner Mr. Deven Bharti on 7th October, 2016. The office order dated 7th October, 2016 is taken on record and marked 'X' for identification. 3.
Learned Public Prosecutor on instructions submits that under the supervision of Mr. Sandeep Karnik, Dy. Commissioner of Police, Zone II, Mumbai, the Special Investigation Team has been constituted of the officers named in the order. The team would investigate the crime registered in the police stations which are mentioned in the office order. The Assistant Police Commissioner further directed that the team would investigate the offence under the supervision of DCP and take instructions from him from time to time.

The learned Public Prosecutor submitted that in respect of other similar crimes committed in the State of Maharashtra, the department will take appropriate decision in respect of modus operandi to be adopted for investigating those cases.

We direct that in case offences of similar nature relating to same transaction as disclosed in the subject crimes, are registered in any of the police stations in Mumbai region then the same Special Investigation Team appointed under the office order dated 7th October, 2016 by the Assistant Police Commissioner, Mumbai shall investigate the same on its own merits.
