The present public interest litigation is filed seeking direction to hold election of Panvel Municipal Council after direction to the Government to take steps to intimate formation of a separate Municipal Council for Kharghar and other areas coming within the jurisdiction of CIDCO.

Learned Government Advocate brings to our notice the Notification dated 26th September 2016 wherein the area specified in the Schedule to the Notification shall cease to be smaller urban area with effect from 1st October 2016. In that view of the matter, Panvel Municipal Council ceases to be a smaller urban area with effect from 1st October 2016.

In the light of the above Notification, the prayers sought in the PIL become infructuous and accordingly the PIL is disposed of as infructuous.
