This is an application for renewal/re-issuance of the passport for a period of 10 years.

It is submitted by Mr.Singh, learned counsel appearing for the respondent no.2 that it is for the applicant to apply to the passport ofÏce for renewal of the passport when the application will be considered in accordance with law. It is further submitted that as per the notification dated 25/08/1993 issued by Ministry of External Affairs, if no period either for the issue of the passport or for the travel abroad is specified, the passport shall be issued for a period 1/2

Urmila Ingale 918-APEAL-933-18.doc of one year. In the facts of the present case, considering that the appeal is of 2018, it is not likely to be heard soon. In my opinion, there should not be any impediment for the passport authority for renewal / re-issuance of the passport for a period of 5 years. It is open for the applicant to make an appropriate application to the Regional Passport Authority for renewal / reissue which can be decided in accordance with law and if otherwise eligible, the same be renewed/reissued for a period of 5 years. Needless to mention that if the applicant wants to travel abroad, he will have to seek permission from this Court.
