The petitioner contends that her son had gone abroad for taking pilot training. It is the submission that as the petitioner belongs to economically weaker section, he is entitled for a waiver of the interest accrued on the loan obtained by the petitioner. 2.

Learned Counsel has referred to guidelines and objectives of the scheme framed by the Government of India in this regard. It is submitted that petitioner had obtained loan from Vijaya Bank, Sangli. 3.

In the communication made by the Branch Manager, Vijaya Bank dated 1st July, 2014, the objective of the scheme is quoted which reads as under:

The Government of India will take over the entire liability of the interest outstanding as on 31.12.2013 for all education loans sanctioned up to 31.03.2009 and which are outstanding as on 31.12.2013, by the students belonging to Economically Weaker Sections from the scheduled banks/RRBs for pursuing any of the approved courses of studies in technical and professional streams from recognized institutions in India."

Learned Counsel appearing for the petitioner submits that economically weaker section students like the petitioner ought to have been provided with the facility of waiver of the interest even if such students opt for training in foreign countries by obtaining loan in India. Denying such waiver would be unreasonable and would be contrary to the principles of policy.

In the facts of the case, we do not find any merits in the submissions advanced and considering the objective of the scheme quoted by the Bank in its communication, no interference in writ jurisdiction is warranted. Petition is dismissed. (S.B. SHUKRE, J.) (NARESH H. PATIL, J.) L.S. Panjwani, P.S.
