Under the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966 the development plans have to be prepared for the 16 newly constituted Municipal Councils and 120 Nagar Panchayats. This would require a survey of large tracks of lands and thereafter the same to be properly mapped. The grievance in the Public Interest Litigation is to use of GIS based technology being used. It is pleaded in the Petition that this is waste of public fund.

We do not agree. The plethora of Public Interest Litigation in this Court alleging unauthorized construction had led this Court to pass orders requiring the State to use the latest GIS based technology to map the lands in the State of Maharashtra.

The Public Interest Litigation is dismissed.
