On 12th July, 2018, applicant attempted to use counterfeit currency notes as genuine in vegetable market at APMC. He was apprehended. Whereafter fve currency notes of denomination of Rs.2,000/- were recovered from his person. Report of currency notes is called for. I have perused the report dated 15th October, 2018 of Currency Notes Press, Nashik Road.

Applicant claims that he was regularly supplying vegetables to one person at Antop Hill, Mumbai. He would claim that these fve currency notes were given to him by that person. Pursuant to this information, investigation has been made. It is revealed that no such person exists at the place nor his cell number given by the applicant is correct. The ofence punishable under Section 489 of the IPC is punishable with imprisonment for life or with imprisonment for a term, which may extend to ten years.
