DATED : 20th August 2019 P.C:- The Public Interest Litigation seeks to challenge a notification dated 30th June 2018 permitting manufacture and commercial use of multi-layered packaging material made from plastic.

The petitioner wants a complete ban of manufacture and use of plastic. It would not be possible for the Court to direct that no plastic whatsoever be manufactured and put to commercial use but Regulation has to be put in place so that indiscriminate use of plastic is done away with. Tilak

We terminate the proceedings in the PIL noting that manufacturers of packing material have filed petitions in this Court challenging the notifications in question but on different grounds.

PIL is accordingly dismissed.
