The only prayer made by the petitioner in the instant petition is for the direction to the Caste Scrutiny Committee to decide the caste claim of the petitioner within a time frame.

The petitioner was elected as a member of the Zilla Parishad, Solapur and the caste claim of the petitioner was referred to the Scrutiny Committee for verification. It is stated that the vigilance enquiry is conducted in the caste claim of the petitioner but the Scrutiny Committee is not deciding the caste claim at the earliest. It is stated if the caste claim of the petitioner is not decided within the stipulated time, the petitioner apprehends that he would be disqualified.

Shri Sagare, the learned Additional Government Pleader appearing for the Scrutiny Committee states that if the caste claim of the petitioner is pending, the same would be decided as early as possible. By accepting the statement made on behalf of the learned Additional Government Pleader, we dispose of the writ a petition with direction to the Scrutiny Committee to decide the caste claim of the petitioner as early as 1/2

The office of the petitioner as a member of Zilla Parishad, Solapur would be protected till his caste claim is decided or till the matter in the case of Anant Ulahalkar is decided by the Hon'ble Supreme Court.
