This is a petition filed under Section 29A of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996 whereby the petitioner has prayed for extension of time for a period of twelve months, to enable the arbitral tribunal to complete the arbitral proceedings and publish an award. It is submitted that the evidence is in progress and soon the parties would proceed for final arguments.

Having perused the averments in the petition, though it is a longer period, the mandate of the arbitral tribunal to conclude the arbitral proceedings and publish an award is required to be extended. Accordingly, the mandate of the arbitral tribunal is extended for 12 months. The arbitral tribunal shall make an endeavour to conclude the arbitral proceedings, considering the fact that the arbitral tribunal has entered the reference on 1 December 2017 and already a period of two years has expired.
