The petition is under Section 29-A of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act 1996. The learned sole arbitrator, a senior advocate of this Court, entered upon the reference to his arbitration in the year 2017. In fact all proceeded without realising that one-year period ended in November 2018 and the parties continued to lead evidence. It is only in late September 2019 that realisation dawned on everybody. Therefore this application to "regularise the arbitration proceeding and to further extend time". 2.

I believe I must do both. The learned arbitrator has obviously spent a lot of time and done considerable work in advancing the matter to this stage.

The petition is disposed of with the directions that there is no termination or deemed termination of the mandate of the arbitrator and the time for completion of the arbitration is extended till 22nd December 2020.
