Heard the learned Counsel for the petitioners and the learned A.P.P. for the respondents.

The petitioners, apprehending danger to their lives, have prayed for police protection. As seen from the papers produced with the petition, the petitioners have applied on 08.08.2016 and 09.08.2016, respectively, seeking
2 30-crwp1303.odt police protection as they apprehend danger to their lives from certain persons named in their applications. However, no decision has been taken by respondent no.2 on those applications. The petitioners are ready to bear the charges in case the police protection is provided to them.

As per the Circular dated 03.01.2000 issued by the Home Department (Special), Government of Maharashtra, Mantralaya, Mumbai, there are specific directions to provide police protection to the persons who apprehend danger to their lives, and the protection so given to them has to be revived from time to time.

When the petitioners are coming with a specific case that there are certain persons named in their applications, who have been booked for serious offences, have threatened them with dire consequences and they apprehend danger to their
3 30-crwp1303.odt lives from those persons, it was necessary for respondent no.2 to immediately consider the applications of the petitioners in the light of the observations referred above and take appropriate decision.

In the above circumstances, we direct respondent no.2 to consider the applications filed by the petitioners after extending the petitioners an opportunity of hearing and decide the applications within two weeks from today.

The petitioners shall appear before respondent no.2 on 27.10.2016 at 3:00 p.m.

With these directions, the petition stands disposed of.

The learned APP shall communicate this order to respondent no.2 by any fastest mode of communication.
