The petitioner's request for change in the school record in respect of his surname as forwarded by the Headmaster to the Education Officer (Secondary)/respondent no. 2, has been pending since 04 September 2024 (exhibit 'D'). 2.

We dispose of the writ petition by directing respondent no. 2 to take appropriate decision in accordance with clause 26.4 of the Secondary School Code on its own merits but it shall not be rejected on the ground that petitioner having left school in terms of the observations of the Full Bench in the matter of Janabai Himmatrao Thakur Versus the State of Maharashtra and Others, AIRONLINE 2019 BOM 1055. The decision shall be taken as expeditiously as possible and in any case within a period of four weeks.
