It is submitted that applications are filed by the petitioners for rental compensation and the applications are not yet decided by the competent authority.

Mr. Chillarge, the learned advocate for respondent No.3 submits that the petitioners are claiming interest on the enhanced amount granted in the Reference under section 18 of the Land Acquisition Act. The State is not aware that any appeal is filed against the same.

In the present matter the petitioners are seeking directions to decide the applications for rental compensation on their own merits. The acquiring body has every right to represent itself before the competent authority deciding the applications for rental compensation. While doing so, the acquiring body can bring all these facts to the notice of the competent authority deciding the application 4.
The authority where the petitioners'
applications for rental compensation are pending shall take decision upon them on their own merits as per the law and after hearing all the parties concerned, expeditiously, preferably within six months, if not already decided.

Writ petitions are accordingly disposed of. No costs.
