The petitioners are the owners of the writ properties which have been taken possession of way back in the year 2005 for construction of a percolation tank, without paying them a single pie and even without concluding the acquisition proceeding under the The Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013.

The plight of the petitioners can be easily understood. Going by the papers all the initial steps towards acquisition were taken and even possession was taken over. For the reasons best known to the respondents, no final award has been passed. Petitioners have not been paid a single farthing for years together.

We dispose of the writ petitions by directing the respondents to 1/2

964 WP 13653 OF 2019 conclude the acquisition proceeding, as early as possible and in any event within six months from today and to pay the petitioners the amount of compensation so assessed.
