Heard Mr.Mardikar, learned Senior Counsel appearing for the petitioner.

According to Mr.Mardikar, on 29th April, 2022 the petitioner/Trust Society registered under the Societies Registration Act has approached the State Government seeking permission for opening a new college pursuant to the statutory mandate provided under Section 109(3) of the Maharashtra Public University Act, 2016. It is claimed that such permission is sought with a rider that the petitioner shall be administering self finance institution. According to him, despite the application being pending for almost more than three years, the respondent no.1 has not taken any decision. He has invited our attention to the recommendation given in the matter of recommending the prayer of the petitioner for opening of new college. 3.

When confronted, learned Assistant Government Pleader appearing for the respondent no.1 would submit that the State Government shall pass appropriate orders within a reasonable period of six months.

Having regard to the fact that the proposal of the petitioner is already recommended by the respondent no.2 and same is pending for almost last three years, we deem it appropriate to dispose of the petition by directing the respondent no.1 to decide the proposal of the petitioner which is recommended by the respondent no.2 University for starting new college as expeditiously as possible and in any case within a period of twelve weeks from the date of production of this order. 5.
