Since the petitioner desired to contest the election to the post of sarpanch in the gram panchayat elections that were conducted in the year 2005 and since the term of the elected body of the gram panchayat is five years, the writ petition is liable to be dismissed. Hence, we dismiss the writ petition with no order as to costs. Rule stands discharged.
