Heard learned counsel Ms Preeti Rane for the petitioner and learned Additional Government Pleader Shri A.M. Deshpande for the respondent / committee.

The petitioner is a student of 12th Std. who seeks to pursue higher education. Since he claims to belong to the Scheduled Tribe community, he wishes to seek admission on a seat reserved for such community.

3. Ms Rane, learned advocate for the petitioner submits that he has applied for a decision on his caste claim before the Caste Certificate Scrutiny Committee, Amravati on 21.9.2020 and such claim is pending.

On the last occasion, we had adjourned hearing of this writ petition to enable Shri A.M. Deshpande for the respondent / committee to let us know the probable time within which a decision could be given. Shri A.M. Deshpande has obtained instructions. According to him, complete set of papers was received from the petitioner on 15.2.2022 and the process of verification is in progress. He submits that, it would at least take two months' time to complete the process of police verification. He also submits that as soon as .....1/-

wp2070.22 2.odt possible thereafter, the decision of the Caste Scrutiny Committee shall be made available to the petitioner.

In view thereof, we find no reason keeping this writ petition pending.

Let police verification be completed within two months. The process of giving a decision on the caste claim must be completed immediately after the police verification report is obtained by the committee. It ought to endeavour to decide the caste claim of the petitioner in accordance with law as early as possible but preferably within a period of two months from date of receipt of such report. Needless to observe that the petitioner shall cooperate with the committee and shall not seek any unnecessary adjournment. 7.

With the above observations, the writ petition stands disposed of. All contentions are left open.
