By this writ petition, the petitioner has challenged the selection and appointment of the respondent no.5 on the post of Assistant Professor, on 06.05.1998.

It appears that though the impugned order was passed on 06.05.1998, the writ petition was filed belatedly on 04.02.2000. Though this writ petition is admitted and rule was issued and was made returnable early, the matter could not be heard for more than sixteen years. Eighteen years have lapsed from the date of appointment of the respondent no.5. While issuing Rule in the writ petition, interim relief was not granted, with the result, the respondent no.5 must be working on the post of Assistant Professor for more than eighteen years.

None had appeared on behalf of the petitioner on the previous date of hearing and none appears for the petitioner, today. In this background, in our view, the petitioner must not be interested in prosecuting the writ petition. Hence, the writ petition is disposed of with no order as to costs. Rule stands discharged.
