The petition has been filed by the present petitioner in the larger public interest for a direction to the State Government for expediting the formulation of the Victim Compensation Scheme as per Section 357-A of the Code of Criminal Procedure. A direction is also sought to the respondent no.3-Maharashtra State Legal Services Authority and various other Legal Services Authority to take steps for implementation of the said scheme.
During the pendency of the present petition, a scheme was already framed. However, the said scheme could not take effect inasmuch as the State Government had not allotted the amount for implementation of the said scheme. Accordingly, a Government Resolution has been issued on 03.02.2015 whereby an amount of Rs.1.23 Crores has been disbursed to the respondent no.3-Maharashtra State Legal Services Authority, Mumbai.
PIL66-13 The respondent no.3-Maharashtra State Legal Services Authority, Mumbai has also filed an affidavit pointing therein as to what steps it proposes to take for awakening of the eligible persons for taking benefit of the scheme. It is proposed that various workshops would be taken at various levels including the Division, District and Tahsil.
In that view of the matter, we find that the petition has served its purpose. The same is disposed of. No costs.
