Rule. Learned Assistant Government Pleader waives notice for respondents. Heard finally by consent of the learned counsel appearing for the parties.

The only relief sought by the petitioner is for expeditious consideration of the appeal preferred by the petitioner challenging the order dated 07.06.2023 holding the petitioner ineligible for benefit under the sports quota. 4.

It is submitted by the learned counsel for the petitioner that on 26.06.2019, the respondent No.3- Deputy Director of Sports found the petitioner entitled for benefit under the sports quota, since he fulfilled the requisite requirement. However, on 07.06.2023, the petitioner was informed by the respondent No.4 that in view of the opinion expressed by the Directorate of sports he was not eligible for seeking the benefit under the sports quota. Being aggrieved, the petitioner has preferred an appeal before respondent No.2. That appeal dated 14.06.2023 is pending. Since, the petitioner seeks to take benefit of his entitlement in the sports quota, the petitioner seeks expeditious disposal of the appeal.

In the aforesaid facts, the writ petition is disposed of directing the respondent No.2 to decide the petitioner's appeal dated 14.06.2023 expeditiously and preferably within a period of six weeks of receiving copy of the order. The petitioner be granted an opportunity of hearing prior to deciding the said appeal. Till the said appeal is decided, the petitioner's name shall not be deleted from the select list for the post of Police Constable. Rule is disposed of in the aforesaid terms. No costs.
