In view of the provisions of the Maharashtra Public Universities Act, 2016 ('the Act of 2016'), the petitioner-Society sought permission for opening a new Senior College, which was recommended by the respondent No.2-University.

It is claimed that the respondent No.1-State Government has not taken any decision in the matter, though there is a mandate provided under Section 109 of the Act of 2016.

From the record, it is demonstrated that the proposal of the petitioner-Society was not only processed but also the petitioner has made the compliance qua the shortfalls communicated to it. 4.

In that view of the matter, we deem it appropriate to direct the respondent No.1-State Government to take decision on the proposal submitted by the petitioner-Society as expeditiously as possible and in any case within a period of eight weeks from the date of production of this order.
