The cognizance has been taken because of general grievance that the proceedings before the Rent Controller were not being taken up expeditiously and landlords were required to wait indefinitely. The grievance looked into was about old cases pending before the Rent Controller functioning under the C.P. & Berar Letting of Houses and Rent Control Order, 1949.

The learned Acting GP has correctly pointed out that the said enactment has been substituted by Maharashtra Rent Control Act, 1999, and jurisdiction also has been transferred to Small Cause Court or to the Court of Civil Judge, Junior Division, as the case may be. 4.

It is apparent that due to this change the grievance does not survive. Writ Petition is accordingly disposed of. No order as to costs.
