The present public interest litigation has been filed with a prayer for directing the respondent - Union of India to grant permission for starting Government Medical College at Gondia.
The respondent - State has filed an affidavit stating therein various lacunae.
Gondia District is a naxalite affected district. It is also in the backward region. The residents of these area have to travel long distance so as to take medical treatment at Government Medical College at Nagpur. Even the Central Government has also included Gondia in the list of places at which the medical college is to be established and the funds is to be provided from the Central Government. In that view of the matter, we find the constraints of finance should not be there in removing the lacunae. One of the aspects also appears to be deficiency of teaching staff. The Medical College would start from .....2/-
2 PIL65.15.odt June/July, 2016. In that view of the matter, there is sufficient time available with the State Government to remove the lacunae so that the Medical Council of India does not become the stumble block in the way of starting of said medical college.
We direct the State Government to give a time bound program as to within how much time, the deficiency as pointed out in the affidavit is to be removed.
Necessary steps be taken within a period of one week.
Civil Application (CAO) No. 1706 of 2015 For the reasons stated in the application, the application is allowed.
