By this petition, the petitioner seeks a direction to the respondents to appoint the petitioner on the post of Kotwal as his father had expired while serving as a Kotwal. Nothing has been brought by the petitioner on record to show that on the death of Kotwal, his legal representative or dependent could be appointed as a Kotwal on compassionate ground. It appears that on the death of a Kotwal, a proclamation is required to be issued calling applications for appointment on the post of Kotwal and the son of the Kotwal could be given preference. The petitioner is free to apply for the post of Kotwal as and when an advertisement or proclamation is issued. The petitioner cannot directly seek his appointment on the post of Kotwal on the death of his father.

In the circumstances of the case, we dismiss the writ petition with no order as to costs.
