It is unfortunate that the post of Presiding Officer, Central Government Industrial Tribunal (CGIT), Nagpur is vacant since 29.04.2024 and the issue is being not addressed at the level of Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).

Mr. Deshpande, Deputy Solicitor General of India appearing for the respondents informs that there is no progress in the matter as the issue is pending with the Department of Personnel and Training. 4.

We would like to invite attention of the Cabinet Secretary to the order dated 15.01.2024. When the matter was heard on 31.01.2024, it was brought to our notice that the meeting of the Search Committee was scheduled on 01.02.2024 and since then there is no progress in the matter. As such, this Court vide order dated 31.07.2024 has expedited the procedure for appointment of the Presiding Officer of the CGIT, Nagpur.

It appears that even after the order dated 31.07.2024, the matter has not travelled far.

In this background, we deem it appropriate to direct the respondents to complete the process of selection and appointment of the Presiding Officer of CGIT, Nagpur within a period of twelve weeks from today.

With these observations, the Public Interest Litigation stands disposed of.
