Petitioner, who is otherwise due for retirement from service on attaining age of superannuation on 31.3.2019, seeks an order of directing the respondent to permit the petitioner to change his date of birth in service record.

2. According to us, it is by now well settled that an employee ought not be permitted to change his date of birth in service record on the verge of his retirement. Accordingly, we are afraid, that we will not be in a position to grant the petitioner any relief in this petition.

3. Mr. Bhobe, however, points out that the correct date of birth is recorded in his LIC policy and expresses an apprehension that there might be some difficulty raised by the respondent in

WP/253/2019 relation to such dates. Although, we do not wish to get into such issue, we clarify that this petition was restricted only to the issue to record the date of birth in the service record of the petitioner and to no other matter. With clarification as aforesaid, we reject the petition. There shall be no order as to costs. PRITHVIRAJ K. CHAVAN, J.
