Coram:- F. M. REIS & NUTAN D. SARDESSAI, JJ.

Date:- 27th September, 2016 ORAL JUDGMENT ( Per F. M. Reis, J ) Heard Mr. V. A. Lawande, learned counsel

:3: W P NO. 231 OF 2008 appearing for the petitioners and Mr. V. Sardessai, learned Addl. Government Advocate appearing for the respondent nos. 1 to 4. 2.

The challenge in the above petition is on the allegation that there are illegal slaughtering houses which are carrying out slaughtering of animals contrary and in breach of the Animal Preservation Act and Cow Slaughter Act. In a petition filed before this Court bearing Writ Petition No. 296 of 2013, we have issued directions to ensure that the provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act are implemented and the illegal slaughtering of the animals are duly prevented. The view taken by us is based on the directions issued by the Apex Court with regard to the facilities to be provided to the slaughtering houses.

3.

It is the contention of Mr. Lawande, learned counsel appearing for the petitioners that there are illegal slaughtering houses wherein the animals are slaughtered contrary to the relevant provisions of law. The learned Addl. Government Advocate disputes the said contention but however, points out that as and when there are complaints lodged with that regard, the concerned authorities are

:4: W P NO. 231 OF 2008 taking action in accordance with law.

4.

For the reasons as stated in the said judgment dated 22.07.2016 while disposing of Writ Petition No.296 of 2013, as substantial grievances raised in the present petition are taken care of, we find that no further directions are required in the present petition at this stage. Needless to say, the respondents are expected to ensure that the directions issued by this Court in the said Writ Petition are duly complied with and in case any complaints are lodged for illegal slaughtering of animals, necessary action be taken in accordance with law. The petition stands disposed off accordingly. Liberty to apply.
