P.C. :- 1.

Though nobody appears for the petitioner, but we are constrained to dispose of the public interest litigation for the facts noted hereinafter.

2.

It is the case of the petitioner that Lift Irrigation Scheme was prepared by the State of Maharashtra way back in the year 1984 to provide water in the drought affected areas in Sangli district. It is pleaded that the scheme was extended to Solapur district as well. 1/3

Pleading facts of partial completion of the irrigation scheme prayer made is to direct the release of further sum of ₹350/- crores so that remaining works in Sangola and Mangalwedha taluka in Solapur district are also completed. The said works are part of ingress Mhaisal Lift Irrigation Project.

The reply brings out that Krishna - Koyana Lift Irrigation Project was primarily aimed at providing irrigation benefits in Sangli and Solapur districts. The reply brings out that funding had to be in the ratio of 85.76% : 14.24% by the Central and State. The reply brings out necessary budgetary allocation was made available from time to time.

4.

The order dated 18th January, 2019 notes that completion of the main Canal and the irrigation net work was near completion and was expected to be completed by June, 2019. We are informed that there is some delay in completion of the scheme, which would be definitely completed by the end of current year. 2/3

5.

Thus, we terminate the proceedings in the public interest litigation for the reason we find that the respondents are conscious of the problem of lack of water in district Solapur and have taken steps to mitigate the problem by constructing an irrigation system. The file be consigned to the record room.
