The petitioners claim to be the residents of the village - Sheldi, Taluka - Khed, District- Ratnagiri. According to the petitioners, there are four schools run by the Zilla Parishad, out of which, two are primary and two are upper primary schools. The upper primary school is upto 8th standard and students after passing 8th standard are required to search for secondary school for the purpose of taking further education and are required to travel about more than 6 to 7 kilometers. According to them, the students cannot afford to travel such a long Shubhada S Kadam 1/2

Learned counsel for the petitioners also submits that the Gram Panchayat has also made a resolution for opening of the school in the said village but no action has been taken on it by the State Government. Learned counsel for the petitioners further submits that the petitioners have submitted a representation to the Education Officer, Primary and Secondary School, Zilla Parishad-Ratnagiri as also to the Education Minister. Learned counsel for the petitioners submitted that this petition may be disposed of by directing the State Government to take an appropriate decision for opening of the secondary school in village - Sheldi.

In view of the aforesaid limited prayer, without going into the merits of the matter, this petition is disposed of by directing respondent Nos. 1 to 3 to examine the petitioners' claim for opening of the school in the aforesaid village and take appropriate decision. Let the decision as aforesaid be taken within eight weeks from today. The writ petition stands disposed of accordingly.
