The petitioner, who apprehends arrest at the hands of the respondent police for the offence punishable under Section 6(4) of TNSC (RDGS) Order 1982 read with 7(i)(a)(ii) of E.C., Act 1955 in Crime No.83 of 2023, seeks anticipatory bail.
2. It is stated that the respondent found the accused Nos. 1 and 2 in possession of 4,000 kgs of PDS rice in bags and they had been arrested. Subsequently, the accused Nos. 3 to 5 were also arrested and they had all been granted bail by the learned Judicial Magistrate No.I, Thiruvallur. This petitioner is A-7. He is the mediator or rather a broker, who secured the PDS rice from the ration shop and sold it to the accused Nos. 1 and 2 and other accused for further distribution.
3. Taking all the factors into considertation and the quantity of PDS rice sold, I am not inclined to grant anticipatory bail to the petitioner at this stage. Accordingly, this Criminal Original Petition stands dismissed.
