ORDER

The petitioner executed a settlement deed dated 31.12.2025 in favour of her daughter, Ms.Revathi Vaidhyanathan, and presented the same for registration. On the ground that the instrument was not registered till date, the present writ petition has been filed.

2. Learned counsel for the petitioner submits that the registering officer should either register the instrument or issue a speaking order of refusal.

3. Mr.U.Baranidharan, learned Special Government Pleader, accepts notice for both the respondents. He submits that the registering officer would either register the document or issue a speaking order of refusal within one week from the date of re-presentation.

4. Considering the above submissions, this writ petition is disposed of on the following terms:

(i) The petitioner shall re-present the settlement deed for registration within one week.

(ii) Subject to fulfilment of other requirements relating to registration, the registering officer shall either register the document or issue a speaking order of refusal. These actions shall be carried out within one week from the date of representation. (iii) No costs.
