ORDER

This Criminal Original Petition has been filed seeking a direction to the respondent police to expedite the investigation in Crime No.876/2016 pending on his file and file a final report within a stipulated time as may be fixed by this Court.

2. The case of the petitioner is that as against one Elumalai, she has lodged a complaint with the respondent police and the same was registered as FIR in Crime No.876 of 2016 for the offences punishable under Sections 294(b) and 323 IPC and Section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Woman Act, 2002. Though the complaint was registered on 17.10.2016, till date, no steps have been taken by the respondent to conduct enquiry and file final report as per law. Hence, this petition.

3. Heard the learned counsel for the petitioner and the learned Additional Public Prosecutor, who took notice for the respondent.

Considering the facts and circumstances of the case, this Court directs the respondent police to investigate the case in Crime No.876 of 2016 pending on his file and file a final report, as expeditiously as possible, preferably, within a period of six weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.

5. Accordingly, the Criminal Original Petition is ordered.
