ORDER
This Writ Petition has been filed seeking a direction to the third respondent to consider and pass orders on the representation dated 14.12.2025 submitted by the petitioners requesting to prepare the panel of Inspectors (Adj./ G) fit for promotion to the post of Assistant Commandant for the year 20242025 by placing the Inspectors transferred from the Specialist Line to the General Line below the Inspectors of the General Line in the seniority list and by reckoning the mandatory period of five years qualifying service only from the date of their transfer to and actual assumption of charge as Inspector of Police in the General Line.
2. Heard the learned counsels on either side. With the consent of both sides, the Writ Petition is taken up for hearing at the admission stage itself.
3. The learned counsel for the petitioners submitted that the petitioners were initially selected and appointed as Constables in the Tamil Nadu Special Police [TNSP] during the year 1993 and posted at various Battalions on 25.10.1993 and thereafter, promoted as Sub-Inspectors and Inspectors in the
year 2006 & 2022 respectively and now serving as Inspectors of Police in TNSP, General Line. He added that the promotion to the post of Assistant Commandant for the year 2024-25 is under process in which six Inspectors of RT line have been included, for which the third petitioner has sent representations dated 04.01.2025 & 10.07.2025 to omit the six RT Line Inspectors' names and furthermore, all the petitioners herein sent a detailed representation on 14.12.2025 to the respondents requesting to prepare the panel of Inspectors (Adj./G) for promotion to the post of Assistant Commandant for the year 2024-25, by placing the Inspectors transferred from the Specialist Line to the General Line below the Inspectors of the General Line in the seniority list and by reckoning the mandatory period of five years' by qualifying the service only from the date of their transfer to and actual assumption of charge as Inspector of Police in the General Line, by excluding all ineligible personnel, however there was no response and hence, the present Writ Petition.

Considering the facts and circumstances of the case, there shall be a direction to the respondent concerned to dispose of the petitioners' representation dated 14.12.2025 and to pass appropriate orders in accordance with law, within a period of eight weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.
5. With the above direction, the Writ Petition is disposed of. Consequently, connected Miscellaneous Petition is closed. There shall be no order as to costs.
6. WMP.No.3652 of 2026 filed by the petitioners to permit them to file a single writ petition jointly is allowed, subject to payment of a single Court fee. 04-02-2026 Index: Yes/No Speaking/Non-speaking order DP
