ORDER

This Contempt petition has been filed for the alleged disobedience of the order dated 29.01.2020 passed by this Court which reads as follows :

7. Accordingly, this Court directs the second respondent to determine the compensation payable to the petitioner in accordance with law within a period of 12 weeks from the date 1/3

of receipt of a copy of this order and on such determination, the first respondent shall pay the compensation amount to the petitioner within eight weeks thereafter. It is made clear that if there is any delay in payment of compensation to the petitioner, the first respondent shall be liable to pay interest at the rate of 18% per annum on the delayed payment.

2. On the last hearing date i.e. on 16.09.2021, the learned Government Advocate appearing for the respondent has placed before this Court a communication dated 18.03.2021 sent by the Revenue Divisional Officer informing him that as directed by this Court on 29.01.2020 in WP No.2097 of 2012, compensation amount payable to the petitioner has been determined.

Today, the learned Additional Government Pleader appearing for the respondent has placed before this Court a letter dated 07.08.2021 under which the petitioner has acknowledged receipt of the communication from the respondent under which compensation amount payable to him has been determined. Since, the order dated 29.01.2020 passed by this Court in WP No.2097 of 2012 has been complied with, this Contempt Petition has to be closed. Accordingly, this Contempt Petition is closed. No costs.

4. However, a direction is issued to the respondent to communicate the determination of compensation amount to the General Manager, 2/3

Southern Railways, Chennai - 3 calling upon him to pay the determined compensation amount to the petitioner, within a period of six weeks from the date of receipt of the said communication.
