Prayer: Petition filed under Section 11 of the Contempt of Courts Act to punish the respondents herein for deliberately disobeying the order dated 11.12.2008 in W.P.No.1049 of 2006 and the D.O.letter lastly on D/2.11.2010 by the Chairman, Hawking Committee, City of Chennai appointed by this Court under the Contempt of Court Act.

ORDER
(Order of the Court was made by the Hon'ble Acting Chief Justice) The contempt petition with reference to the order passed by this Court dated 11.12.2008 in WP.No.1049 of 2006 is pending for more than 10 years.
2. This Court passed an order dated 18.9.2012 recording satisfaction of the action taken by the respondents and directing the Corporation to continue the operations of removing the encroachments with the assistance of police and to list after six weeks.
3. The issue raised in the main writ petition was pertaining to hawkers.
4. The learned counsel appearing for the respondents submit that after the order was passed on 11.12.2008 in the main writ petition and the order dated 18.9.2012 passed in the above contempt petition, the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act 2014 has been enacted by the Government of India and now, the hawkers are being regulated by the said Enactment. Thus, a prayer is made to close the above contempt petition.
5. Taking into consideration the said submissions of the learned counsel appearing for the contemners and the fact that the Government of India has come up with a legislation to regulate hawkers, who are now governed by it, the contempt petition can be closed.
