PRAYER: Writ Petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India to issue a Writ of Certiorari or any other appropriate writ or order of direction in the nature of a Writ of Certiorari, calling for the records relating to the acquisition of land of the petitioner by the respondent as published in VI(1)/269/2004 (D.Dis.No.(11)24289/2001 dated 14.05.2004) dated 02.06.2004 in weekly issue No.21-A of the Tamil Nadu Government Gazette, and to quash the same. O R D E R
The petitioner's land situated in Mamallapuram Village opposite to Arjunan Penance was sought to be acquired to promote tourism development work through the notifications by the District Collector, Kancheepuram and by the Special Commissioner and Commissioner of Land Administration dated 22.07.2003 and 02.06.2004 respectively by the 1st respondent herein. Challenging the proposed acquisition, the present writ petition has been filed.

2.Today, when the matter is called, the learned counsel for the petitioner had produced a letter issued by the Principal Secretary, Department of Tourism and Development dated 26.11.2011, wherein the District Collector of Kancheepuram was apprised of the fact that the Central Government had dropped the proposal to acquire the petitioner's land opposite to Arjunan Penance for promotion of Tourism Development Work. 3.In view of the acquisition proceedings itself being recommended to be dropped, no effective orders can be passed in the present writ petition.
The District Collector, Kancheepurarm, shall also notify the withdrawal of the acquisition proceedings at the earliest.
4.Recording the letter of the Principal Secretary, Department of Tourism and Development dated 26.11.2011, the Writ Petition stands closed. No costs. Consequently, connected Miscellaneous Petitions are closed.
