Respondents Prayer: Writ Petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India praying to issue a Writ of Mandamus, directing the first respondent to appoint the petitioner in any suitable post on compassionate grounds in respondent corporation by considering her representation, dated 18.07.2024 within a reasonable time frame, preferably within three months, as may be fixed by this Court.

ORDER

This Writ Petition has been filed in the nature of a Mandamus seeking a direction against the first respondent, the Commissioner, Greater Chennai Corporation, to consider the representation dated 18.07.2024, given by the petitioner seeking compassionate employment.

2. The father of the petitioner, viz., Sesha Subramani, was employed as Pharmacist in the Greater Chennai Corporation, Zone-13, Adyar. He unfortunately died on 27.10.2022. The petitioner and her mother are the only surviving legal heirs. The petitioner had completed her Master of Arts in English and Master of Arts in Bharatanatyam. She also belongs to the Scheduled Caste Community. It would only be appropriate that the first respondent considers the representation which had been given on 18.07.2024, seeking compassionate employment. The first respondent had not replied to the representation given by the petitioner herein.

3. A direction is issued to the first respondent to consider the representation of the petitioner and if she is otherwise eligible, provide her with suitable employment in the Greater Chennai Corporation, Chennai, in consonance with her educational qualification. Such order is to be passed within a period of six weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order. It is also to be noted that the mother of the petitioner had given no-objection for the grant of employment to the petitioner herein, by representation dated 18.07.2024. The first respondent is directed to comply with the directions issued by this Court.

4. With the above observations, this Writ Petition is disposed of. No costs.
