ORDER

This petition has been filed seeking a direction to respondents 1 and 2 to grant adequate protection for conducting poojas from 07.06.2016 to 09.06.2016 at Arulmigu Kambathaiyan Thirukovil, Attakalanur, Singampettai Village, Bhavani Taluk, Erode District.

Heard the learned counsel for the petitioner and the learned Additional Public Prosecutor appearing for the State. It is the case of the petitioner that he is a devotee of Arulmigu Kambathaiyan Thirukovil, Attakalanur, Singampettai Village, Bhavani Taluk, Erode District and that he is claiming police protection for the conduct of temple festival from 07.06.2016 to 09.06.2016.

If the temple is administered by the H.R. & C.E. Department, normally, it is the Executive Officer and the officials who will make the necessary arrangements for the conduct of the temple festival. If the temple is a village temple, the members of the village will form a committee and they will receive taxes from each household and conduct the temple festival.

In the instant case, the petitioner has not even stated to whom police protection should be given for conducting the temple festival. Hence, a blanket order of police protection cannot be granted on the asking of a devotee.

In the result, this petition is dismissed as being devoid of merits.
