ORDER

This Writ Petition is filed for a Certiorarified Mandamus calling for the records relating to the order, dated 28.02.2024 bearing application Nos.20240130009721 & 20240130009355 and quash the same and to consequently direct the respondent to effect the change of the names of the petitioners as per the applications, dated 30.01.2024.

2. The case of the petitioners is that the petitioners' father's name is P.Valliappan. Originally, their initial is mentioned as 'V'. Now, they want to change the initial as 'VL' When due applications were filed in accordance with the procedure relating to change of the initial, the impugned order is now passed by the respondent by saying that there is no provision for changing initial by mentioning two letters.

3. I have considered submissions made on behalf of the learned Counsel for the petitioner and heard the learned Additional Government 3/7

Pleader.

4. There is no provision which debars or prohibits to keep two letters from the father's name as the initial. Therefore, to represent Valliappan, instead of mentioning 'V' as the initial, these petitioners want to keep 'VL' as the initial. Since the request is not barred under any law, there is no harm in allowing the same by the respondent.

5. In view thereof, this Writ Petition is disposed of. The impugned order stands quashed. The respondent is directed to process the applications and to effect the name change in the manner known to law. The exercise shall be completed within a period of four weeks from the date of receipt/production of a web-copy of this order without waiting for a certified copy of the order. There shall be no order as to costs. Consequently, connected miscellaneous petition is closed.
