O R D E R
The Criminal Original Petition has been filed seeking for a direction to the respondent to file a final report relating to the Crime No.87 of 2014 on the file of the Inspector of Police, D-4, R.K.Pettai Police Station, Thiruvallur District forthwith.
2. When the matter is taken up for hearing, Mr.V.Meganathan, learned Government Advocate (criminal side) appearing for the respondent would submit that it is the case of the year 2014, registered by the respondent in Crime No. 87 of 2014 and the case is still under investigation.
3.Whenever any information in relation to commission of cognizable or non-cognizable offence is received, the police https://hcservices.ecourts.gov.in/hcservices/
officer shall adhere to the procedure contemplated under Sections 154 & 155 of the Criminal Procedure Code and after conducting necessary enquiry/investigation, file final report under Section 173 of Cr.P.C. Such investigation under Chapter XII of the Criminal Procedure Code shall be completed without any unnecessary delay. The delay in filing a final report in the present case is inordinate and unjustified. Hence, it would be appropriate to direct the Investigating Officer to file a final report within a stipulated time, if not already filed. 4.This Court took note of the fact that investigation in this case is pending for the past 8 years. Therefore, this Court is of the opinion, direction may be issued to the respondent police to complete the investigation as expeditiously as possible. Accordingly, this Court directs the respondent police to complete the investigation in Crime No.87 of 2014 and file a final report within a period of two months from the date of receipt of a copy of this Order.
5. With the above direction, this Criminal Original Petition is disposed of.
