ORDER

Mr.A.Gokulakrishnan, learned Additional Public Prosecutor takes notice on behalf of the respondent.

2. This Criminal Original Petition has been filed seeking for a direction to the District Munsif-cum-Judicial Magistrate, Veppanthattai to speedy disposal in C.C.No.70 of 2020.

3. The learned counsel for the petitioner would submit that the petitioner is an accused in Crime No.108 of 2014 registered for the offence under Sections 147, 148, 341, 294(b), 324, 506 (ii) and 379 of IPC. He would submit that it is a false case registered against the petitioner and the twenty other accused.

4. The learned counsel for the petitioner would submit that though the case was registered during the year 2014, the respondent has filed the final report only during the year 2016 and the case has been taken up for trial in C.C.No.70 of 2020. He would further submit that there are twenty one accused in this case and during the pendency of the case, three accused have already died.

5. The learned counsel for the petitioner would submit that right of a speedy trial is a constitutional guarantee given to the accused. The petitioner is now a senior citizen and aged about 62 years and he wants speedy disposal of this case.

6. The learned Additional Public Prosecutor for the respondent would submit that a case has been registered against the petitioner and 20 others for the offences under Sections 147, 148, 341, 294(b), 506(ii), 323 and 326 of IPC. He would further submit that there are totally twelve witnesses in this case and the case stands posted for the appearance of accused on 30.03.2022.

7. In view of the above, this Court directs the learned District Munsif-cum-Judicial Magistrate, Veppanthattai to complete the trial as expeditiously as possible, preferably, within a period of six months from 30.03.2022.

8. This Criminal Original Petition stands disposed of with the above direction and observation.
