The writ petition has been filed in the nature of Certiorarified Mandamus seeking records relating to the order of the 2nd respondent - Sub Registrar, Pondicherry Municipality, Puducherry, dated 08.02.2018 and quash the same and direct the respondents to correct the name of the petitioner as "Meenakshi" instead of "Lakshmi" in the Birth Certificate of her daughter Vishnupriya which was issued in Registration No.M/2000/13940 dated 27.10.2000, issued by the 2nd respondent.

2.It is contended by the learned counsel for the petitioner that actual name of the petitioner is Meenakshi. All the records viz the Aadhar Card and such other records containing the name Meenakshi but in the Birth Certificate of her daughter name was given as Lakshmi. The writ petition has been filed seeking to correct the name of Lakshmi to Meenakshi. 3.A counter affidavit has been filed stating that the daughter of the petitioner was born in Maternity Hospital, Pondicherry on 11.10.2000 and in the 2 / 4

hospital records, the names of the parents were given as Kumaran and Lakshmi. Those records were forwarded to the 2nd respondent and accordingly, the Birth Certificate had been issued.

4.It is contended on behalf of the respondents that if the petitioner seeks to correct her name in the Birth Certificate then she will have to approach the Civil Court seeking appropriate declaratory relief and only thereafter, the respondents can correct the name based on the documents produced. The petitioner may therefore approach the Civil Court for declaratory relief . 5.The Writ Petition stands disposed of accordingly.
