The Writ Petition has been disposed by order dated 27.07.2022 requiring the VII Judge/Rent Control Appellate Authority, Small Causes Court, Chennai to dispose the appeal in R.C.A. No. 364 of 2007 and XX Assistant Judge, City Civil Court, Chennai to dispose the suit in O.S. No. 4738 of 2020 within a period of six months from the date of receipt of a copy of that order. 2.

The matter has been listed today on receipt of separate letters dated 23.11.2023 and 11.01.2024 from the VII Judge (Full Additional Charge), Small Causes Court, Chennai and the XVIII Assistant Judge, City Civil Court, Chennai before whom the suit has been subsequently transferred, seeking extension of time to pass final orders in the said cases. 3.

In respect of R.C.A. No. 364 of 2007, it has been informed by the Chief Judge, Small Causes Court, Chennai in the letter dated 18.01.2024 that the IX Judge, Small Causes Court, Chennai, who is holding Full Additional Charge of VII Judge, Small Causes Court, Chennai has disposed the case on 10.01.2024. 1/4

At the same time, it has been brought to notice that the appeal in W.A. No. 1193 of 2023 has been preferred by the Petitioners against the order dated 27.07.2022 passed in this Writ Petition, which was disposed by order dated 13.02.2024 by the Division Bench of the Court holding that it was for the Petitioners to get the suit decided and they may request the trial court for expeditious disposal of the suit.

In view of the same, the XVIII Assistant Judge, City Civil Court, Chennai shall ensure that there is atleast one effective hearing every month showing progress of the case in O.S. No. 4738 of 2020 and quarterly reports in that regard shall be sent to the Registrar (Judicial) of the Court till the matter is finally disposed.

(ii) In the event of non-compliance of the aforesaid order, the matter shall be placed before the Court.
