This writ petition has been filed challenging the appointment of the fourth respondent as the Village Assistant.

2. The case of the petitioner is that the third respondent had invited applications for the post of Village Assistant through notification dated 08.10.2022. One post was allotted to Athur Kuppam, which was coming under the Scheduled Caste category. The petitioner had submitted his application on 07.11.2022. The petitioner was called for the test to assess his writing and reading ability. Thereafter, he was also called for interview.

3. The grievance of the petitioner is that after he had attended the selection, there was absolutely no response and all of a sudden the fourth respondent was appointed as Village Assistant. According to the petitioner, there was absolutely no transparency in the selection process. Accordingly, the selection of the fourth respondent has been put to challenge in the present writ petition.

4. When the matter came up for hearing on 16.08.2024, this Court directed the learned Additional Government Pleader to take instructions regarding the marks secured by the petitioner and the fourth respondent.

5. When the matter was taken up for hearing today, the learned Additional Government Pleader produced the entire list of candidates who participated in the selection and also the marks that were secured by them. 2 / 4

6. It is seen that the petitioner had secured 74.67 marks, whereas the fourth respondent had secured 76.67 marks. The fourth respondent also belongs to the same village in which he has been appointed as the Village Assistant.

7. This Court is not able to find any illegality in the selection of the fourth respondent as the Village Assistant and hence there is no need for interfering with the said selection.
