ORDER

This Writ Petition has been filed challenging the order passed by the second respondent dated 28.12.2023, thereby rejected the request made by the petitioner to appoint him in the post of Salesman.

2. Heard the learned counsel on either side and perused the materials available on record.

3. The petitioner is qualified and applied to the post of Salesman and Packer in the fair price shops situated in Thiruvannamalai District. The first respondent issued a call letter to attend the interview before the Interview Committee, on 26.12.2022. The petitioner appeared before the Interview Committee and produced his educational qualification certificates and also answered the questions. In Thiruvannamalai District, several thousands of candidates appeared for the post of 352 Salesmen and 14 Packer posts.

4. According to the petitioner, the Interview Committee did not conduct the interview properly and as such, the petitioner was not selected to the post of Salesman and Packer. Therefore, the petitioner submitted a representation to furnish the list of selected candidates and to conduct enquiry.

5. A perusal of the written instructions submitted by the respondents revealed that the interview for Salesmen was held from 12.12.2022 to 28.12.2022 in 14 working days. There were 28 interview Boards and 25 applicants were allotted to each Board. Interview was held on both the sessions of the day. Interview was conducted for 1400 applicants per day. As per G.O.Ms.No.108, Co-operation, Food and Consumer Protection (CJ1) department, dated 23.09.

2022, it was prescribed that in case of recruitment to the posts of Salesman and Packer, the Recruitment Bureau for the Revenue District shall recruit candidates on the basis of the academic marks obtained by the candidate in the qualifying examination prescribed for each of the post and the performance of the candidate in the interview, giving fifty percent weightage for the academic marks and the remaining fifty percent for the interview. As far as the petitioner is concerned, he belongs to MBC category. The HSC mark of the petitioner is 815 out of 1200 which is 67.92%. He had attended the interview on 26.12.2022, afternoon, in Interview Board Number 09. He had secured 25 marks in the interview. 50% of the academic mark is 33.96. Overall, the petitioner had secured 58.96. The cut off mark in MBC category was from 68 to 65 marks.

Therefore, the petitioner was not coming under the zone of consideration and as such, he was not selected.

6. Hence, this Court finds no infirmity or illegality in the order passed by the second respondent dated 28.12.2023 and this writ petition is devoid of merits and is liable to be dismissed. Accordingly, this writ petition is dismissed. Consequently, connected Miscellaneous petition is closed. There shall be no order as to costs.
