PETITION under Article 226 of The Constitution of India praying to direct the respondent to process the petitioners citizenship application in MHA file No.2022011058 dated 06.10.2022 on the file of the 1st respondent in light of India-Sri Lanka Agreements 1964 and 1974 within a time limit as stipulated by this Court.

ORDER

This is a petition filed by the petitioner seeking to direct the first respondent to process the citizenship application in MHA file No.2022011058 dated 06.10.2022 in the light of India Sri Lanka agreements 1964 and 1974 within a time frame.

2. Heard the learned counsel for the petitioner and both the learned Senior Panel Counsel accepting notice for the first respondent as well as the Additional Government Pleader accepting notice for the second respondent.

3. The case of the petitioner is as follows:

The petitioner, who is a Sri Lankan refugee, made an application dated 06.10.2022 to the first respondent for securing Indian citizenship.

The grievance of the petitioner is that the said application is pending consideration from 2022. Though the petitioner's application was forwarded to the second respondent for inquiry, nothing was forthcoming. Hence the petitioner is before this Court.

4. Considering the nature of prayer sought for and without expressing any opinion on the merits of the case, the writ petition is disposed of with a direction to the first respondent to consider the petitioner's application dated 06.10.2022 on merits and pass appropriate orders therein in accordance with law within a period of six weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.
