O R D E R

The petitioner, who was arrested and remanded to judicial custody on 17.12.2025, for the alleged offence punishable under Sections 304(2) of BNS r/w 3(5) of BNS in Cr.No.31 of 2025 on the file of the respondent police, seeks bail.

2. The case of the prosecution is that the petitioner, along with the other accused, was involved in a chain-snatching incident. It is alleged that they followed the defacto complainant and snatched away her thali chain weighing 61⁄2 sovereigns. In this connection, a case has been registered. Hence, the present petition has been filed by the petitioner seeking bail.

3. The learned counsel for the petitioner submitted that the petitioner is arrayed as A2 and that the stolen property has already been recovered. He further submitted that the petitioner has been in custody since 17.12.2025 and is ready to cooperate with the investigation. He also submitted that the petitioner is ready and willing to abide by any conditions that may be imposed by this Court. Hence, he prayed for grant of bail to the petitioner. 4.

The learned Public Prosecutor (Puducherry), appearing for the respondent police, reiterated the prosecution case and submitted that the petitioner is involved in five previous cases of similar nature and that final report was filed. Hence, he vehemently opposed the grant of bail to the petitioner.

5. Heard both sides and perused the materials available on record.

6. Considering the nature of the allegations and the fact that the petitioner is a habitual offender involved in chain-snatching cases, and that 2/4

in the present case the accused allegedly snatched the thali chain of the victim and caused injuries to her, I am not inclined to grant bail to the petitioner.

7. Accordingly, this Criminal Original Petition is dismissed. 25.02.2026 Vv To
